About Department

Established in 1994, the Department of Mechanical Engineering offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs. It boasts well-equipped workshops and research facilities in areas like composite materials, alternative fuels, and 3D printing. Faculty actively publish and collaborate with industries. They also provide opportunities for students to gain practical experience through guest lectures, industrial visits, and online certifications. The department is equipped with advanced machinery and software for research purposes. Their Google Scholar citations are impressive, showcasing their research impact.

To be a leader in providing skill sets for globally competent Engineers, Researchers, Entrepreneurs and Managers in Mechanical Engineering domain.

The PEOs of UG Programmes

    PEO1: Professional Competency: Graduates of the programme will adapt to emerging technological challenges with core competence in mechanical engineering domain.
    PEO2: Employability and Entrepreneurship: Graduates of the programme will exhibit their technical knowledge and skills to secure suitable positions in any technological organizations and to become successful entrepreneurs.
    PEO3: Higher Education and Research: Graduates of the programme will pursue advanced studies in thrust areas of mechanical engineering to carryout scientific and industrial research to meet/satisfy current requirements in respective sectors ethically.


Programme Outcomes (POs)

    PO1: Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
    PEO2: Employability and Entrepreneurship: Graduates of the programme will exhibit their technical knowledge and skills to secure suitable positions in any technological organizations and to become successful entrepreneurs.
    PO3: Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
    PO4: Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
    PO5: Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
    PO6: The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
    PO7: Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
    PO8: Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
    PO9: Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
    PO10: Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with the society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
    PO11: Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
    PO12: Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

Dr. Sukantha T A is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry in K S Rangasamy College of Technology, Tiruchengode, Tamil Nadu, India. She received Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from Avinashilingam University in the year 2013.Her tenure of service for 13 years in K S Rangasamy College of Technology and 11 years in Sengunthar Arts and Science College has honed her skills in teaching, research, social service and administration. Her research interests span a hybrid platform of theoretical and experimental approaches to study the diverse applications of Nanotechnology in drug development, composites, wastewater treatment, food packaging materials, sensors and energy storage devices as well as specialized in Phytochemistry & Phytotheraphy. She serves as a reviewer, editorial member and member in reputed journals. She has published more than 20 papers in international journals and conferences. She has filed one patent for anti-diabetic herbal formulation. She is currently working with a research group focusing on sustainable and eco-friendly materials for various industrial applications. She has authored one book and 4 book chapters. She is an active member of Eco care club to focus on SDG for the environment.
