About Department
The Food Processing (FP) sector emerged as an important segment of the Indian economy in terms of its contribution to GDP, employment and exports. The significant growth of the Indian Food Industry, has created the need for qualified and trained personnel in the fields of Food Technology and , Food Process engineering, packaging, storage, cold chain management safety and quality control in food. Considering this, the Department of Food Technology established in the year 2016 at K. S. Rangasamy College of Technology, offers degree programs namely Bachelor of Technology in Food Technology and Master of Technology in food Technology. State of Art Laboratories are the strength to the Department. The Department received funding from DBT-STAR Scheme, DST-SERB, New Delhi and MSME. Industry internships, collaboration with food industries, Industry supported courses, Industry supported Laboratories, sponsored Fellowships,National and International certification courses are some of the highlights of the department.The degree programs are designed to study the physical, biochemical and microbiological makeup of food materials and unit operations involved Ongoinging them. The students are trained in the areas of post-harvest technology of food crops, processing, preservation, packaging and value addition of food, for complete food supply chain management from farm to fork.

Dr.K.Balasubramani completed his B. Tech in Chemical Engineering from Adhiparasakthi Engineering College in 2010, his M.Tech in Chemical Engineering from Kongu Engineering Collegein 2014 and his Doctorare in technology from Anna University in 2021. His research focuses on developing graphene and graphene oxide nanocomposite for environmental remediation, removal of micropollutant and food applications. He has worked extensively on wastewater treatment using adsorption and emulsion liquid membrane. Dr.K.Balasubramani has published a 20 research article and 1 book chapter. He is a Life member of IIChE and IAENG. His expertise includes adsorbent in materials chemistry with a strong background in optimization and machine learing. He is skilled in synthesis of composite materials through sonochemical, sol–gel, and other methods an active member of IIChE, IGEN and IAENG.

I have 25 years academic experience and 3 years Industrial experience. His research focuses on Heavy metal removal from Industrial Waste water , environmental remediation, removal of Lead and using Bio Mass as adsorbents . Dr. G. Mylsami is a Professor in the Department of Food Technology, K.S.Rangasamy College of Technology. He has received his M.E from Government College of Engineering Salem and Ph.D. degree from Anna University, Chennai. He has a teaching experience of 28 years in total. His research interests include Internal Combustion Engine Exhaust system design. He has published more than 10 papers in International Refereed Journals and 11 papers in Conferences. He has expertise likely encompasses various CAD software tools and simulation techniques to model and analyze the behavior of exhaust gases within the system. By leveraging CAD technology, he can design and optimize exhaust components for factors such as emissions control, noise reduction, and performance enhancement contributing to both environmental sustainability and automotive engineering advancements. He is involved in many International Conferences coordinator. He is an active member of ISTE, ISRD, RED Cross, and IGEN GREEN.

Dr. K. Prabha is an Associate professor and IPR Coordinator in the Department of Food Technology, K.S.Rangasamy college of Technology. She has received her Master and Ph.D. degree from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. For Doctoral studies she received CSIR Senior Research Fellowship. She has a teaching experience of 11 years in total. Her research interests include Drug Discovery, organic synthesis, food packaging materials, extraction of phytomolecules from medicinal plants She is currently working on antimicrobial resistance and development of biopackaging film for food products using natural medicinal plant. She has published more than 20 papers in International Refereed Journals and 10 papers in Conferences 14 patents and 3 copyright registration. She has authored 7 book chapters and one book. She is a reviewer for various reputed journals. Dr. K. Prabha’s research extends beyond academic pursuits, one of her sanctioned project under the Naan Muthalvan Hackathon, which focuses on developing biodegradable films from food waste materials.

Dr. Kavitha Kandiah is an Associate Professor in the Department of Food Technology at K.S. Rangasamy College of Technology. She holds a PhD in Science and Humanities from Anna University, Chennai in 2014, a postgraduate degree in Biotechnology, and a PG diploma in Bioinformatics from Bishop Heber College, Trichy. Her research focuses on nano-biotechnology, including Nano-Probiotics and Nanocomposite materials for biomedical applications. As a UGC-Dr. D.S. Kothari Postdoctoral Fellow at Periyar University (2016–2019), contributed significantly to bio-mimetic biomaterials with funding of INR 20 Lakhs. She has published 30 high-impact journal papers (Cumulative Impact Factor: 120.02, h-index: 17), holds 2 patent publications, 5 NCBI sequences, 1 book, and 3 book chapters, and has mentored 4 B.Tech and 5 MSc graduates. Her early work includes roles as a Project Fellow on a DBT-funded project at Madras University and a Junior Research Fellow on a UGC-DAE CSR collaborative project. Dr. Kavitha has received honors like the Best Young Researcher Award (2017) and Best Woman Researcher Award (2018). An editorial board member and reviewer for international journals, she is also a life member of ISCA, MRSI, and IAAM. She has received a research permit to serve as a Visiting Researcher in Indonesia.

Dr. G. Ayyappadasan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Technology at K.S.Rangasamy College of Technology, serving since December 21, 2010. He completed his Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Anna University, Coimbatore, in 2017, and holds an M.Tech in Industrial Biotechnology from SASTRA University and a B.Tech in Industrial Biotechnology from Kamaraj College of Engineering & Technology. Dr. Ayyappadasan's research specializes in the antioxidant activities of lichens for biomedical applications. His work includes projects funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST). He has published extensively on topics such as the antibacterial and antioxidant activities of lichens and their anti-cancer properties in animal models. Recognized for his contributions, he has received awards like the Best Scientist Award from the Nature Science Foundation and the Summer Research Fellowship from the Indian Academy of Science. Dr. Ayyappadasan holds several patents related to his lichen research and has submitted numerous gene sequences to NCBI. An active member of professional organizations like the International Association of Lichenology and the Indian Lichenological Society, Dr. Ayyappadasan’s dedication to teaching and research continues to benefit his students and the broader scientific community.
