About Department
Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) was started in the year 1994. The department offers 4 years Undergraduate (UG) program in B.E. (ECE) from 1994 and 2 years Postgraduate (PG) in M.E.(VLSI Design) from the year 2005. The student intake for B.E. (ECE) is 120 and PG programme is 06. B.E.(ECE) is being accredited by NBA since 2005-06 regularly for a period of three years. Currently the program is under Tier- I accreditation. The department is recognized as research centre by Anna University, Chennai since 2000. The curriculum and syllabi for the programmes offered in the department are designed based on Outcome Based Education (OBE) with Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). The curriculum is designed to achieve a balance between depth of knowledge acquired through specialization and breadth of knowledge gained through exploration. Department is interested in the professional and skill development of every student entering the program. It is ensured that at the end of the program the student has the potential to face the challenges in his career and life. The undergraduate degree courses offered by the department provide a comprehensive foundation in the core topics of Electronics as well as communication coupled with areas of specialization relevant to emerging engineering challenges. The curriculum is designed to create professional electronics and communication engineers, who can serve in the fields of core electronics engineering, information and communication systems, and other related fields.

Dr. K. B. Jayanthi has
more than 28 years of teaching experience. She graduated in the
discipline of Electronics and Communication Engineering from Government
College of Engineering, Salem in 1994. She completed her post-graduation
in Applied Electronics in Government College of Technology in 1999. She
received her Ph.D. from Anna University Chennai in 2008. Her research
area is Medical Image Processing. She has to her credit a number of
papers published in peer reviewed International Journals like Elsevier,
Springer, IET, Wiley, Actapress etc.
She has presented papers in a number of International and National
Conferences. She has presented papers in the 41st Annual International
Conference of the IEEE EMBS, Berlin, Germany, 23-27 July, 2019, IEEE
Region 10 Annual Conference (TENCON) in Penang, Malaysia during
Nov.5-8,2017, 3rd IEEE Global conference on Signal and Information
Processing during December 14-16, 2015 in Florida; 34th annual IEEE EMBS
conference in San Diego during August 2012 and in the Sixth
International Conference on Information Technology: New Generations in
Las Vegas, US in April 2009. All these trips were sponsored various
funding agencies like DST, DBT, UGC.
She was the invited speaker for the track ‘Signal and Image Processing
in IEEE TENCON 2017 held in She has chaired the session on Signal
Processing in TENCON 2022 held in Hongkong during Nov.1-4, 2022 and the
session ‘Computer, Information Technology and Application’ in the 4th
International conference on Frontiers in Signal Processing, 24- 27
September, 2018, Poitiers, France. She has completed three projects on
Healthcare in Imaging and AI Technology as Principal Investigator. And
one project on Precision Agriculture as Co-investigator. The projects
are funded by AICTE, UGC and DBT. The total cost of the projects is to
the tune of 50 lakhs. Currently she has two projects on AI based
healthcare support for cancer patients and IoT and Block chain for Kolli
Hills products for better reach to customers. This healthcare project is
funded by SERB and Kolli Hills Project by ICSSR. The total cost of these
projects is 55 lakhs.
She has received MODROBS funding to the tune of 8 lakhs from AICTE as
head of the department for modernizing the VLSI laboratory with State of
Art equipment. She has conducted staff development programs which are
funded by organizations like AICTE & Department of Biotechnology. She
has organised a number of conferences, workshops and seminars. She has
received funding to the tune of 40 lakhs from various funding agencies
like AICTE, DBT, DST, MOES, SERB and UGC for organizing such programs.
The total funding received by her is more than 1.5 crores.
She has attended the ‘Women in Engineering: International leadership
conference’ on ‘LEAD BEYOND’ in May 2014 in San Francisco in US. She is
currently the Chair of IEEE EMB Society of Madras section and faculty
advisor of IEEE EMBS and IEEE WIE affinity group of the institution. She
represented the college to receive the Best New Student Chapter Award
from IEEE EMB society in the 39th Annual International Conference of
EMBS held in Jeju islands, South Korea on 12th July 2017. She is
recipient of the prestigious Lilavati Award from AICTE for the year
2021.
